Detergent continued…

Standard

Hey guys!

It’s been forever since I’ve been on here! Been quite hectic the past couple of weeks, but wanted to give you an update on the homemade laundry detergent! Absolutely LOVE IT!!!! It works great!!! Of course, I am still using my stain fighter stuff for big baby stains, but overall, it has gotten all the dirt and grime out of our clothes! And, I have not broken out! I have broken out in the past when changing laundry detergents… so far so good on this one! It’s too easy not to try! If you do end up trying it, let us know! I have had a lot of people ask about it!

I can’t remember if I posted that I started using clothe diapers on Eliza? Well, this stuff is even getting the “mess” out of those! Also, I am loving the clothe diapers as well! Will most certainly be using them on little Jude when he comes!!! =)

Hope you all have a had a great couple of days!!! Will post some more later!!!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Standard

One of my very good friends, Sabra, gave me this recipe for Homemade laundry detergent. She said she uses it and it works great! I was really, very nervous about doing this. This morning, I made a batch! It was SO EASY! I have to let it sit over night, so I won’t be able to do a load of laundry until tomorrow, but, the making process was extremely simple! It took me about 20 minutes total… including doing the dishes afterward!

For those of you who are local or who have a Harris Teeter near you, they do have all the ingredients! I have not been anywhere as of yet looking for them. However, the Borax and Arm and Hammer Soap will last a very long time. I bought all the ingredients back on 1/18/11 and this is how much I spent:

Mule team Borax – $4.75
Fels-Naptha Bar Soap – $1.39
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda – $2.95

Total including Tax – $9.79!!!

This recipe makes a 5 gallon bucket full… per Sabra, lasts FOREVER! You can’t beat the price. I did research on Fels-Naptha and apparently it’s an awesome stain fighter. A lot of women buy the soap bar and rub it on stains. Here is the recipe! Let me know if any of you try it out!!!

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap- Front or top load machine- best value

4 Cups – hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup – Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda*
½ Cup Borax

– Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.

-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.

-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)

-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.

-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.

-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

-Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

*Arm & Hammer “Super Washing Soda” – in some stores or may be purchased online here (at Meijer.com). Baking Soda will not work, nor will Arm & Hammer Detergent – It must be sodium carbonate!!
