Losing Weight…

Good Morning!

Well, first off, I have had some inquiries about the recipe for the Laundry Detergent. If you look under the February 2011 blogs you will find the detailed recipe there! Let me know if you have any questions about it!

Let’s be honest – trying to lose weight SUCKS!!! Horribly sucks! I am absolutely horrible at it… always have been! Especially after being pregnant and eating whatever I want. It’s always been hard for me to cut down and lose the weight. After I had Eliza, I tried my own thing and lost some weight, but was still extremely overweight and weighed about 10 pounds more than I did before I had her. The word “Diet” has always scared me… I don’t like being told that I can’t have this or can’t have that. I just love food!! ha ha! As soon as someone tells me I can’t have something, I crave it even more!!! Since I’ve had Jude I have made the decision that I HAVE to lose weight and get back into shape. If nothing else… to just be healthy! Be able to run after my kids and play with them and not be out of breathe! To feel good about myself.

Well, on July 27th I joined Weight Watchers. They were running a deal I couldn’t refuse and I had heard so many success stories about it! I thought, “why not?” Well, I have absolutely LOVED it! Because I am a nursing mom, I have to keep my points much higher than other women… which is perfectly fine with me! Overall I’ve learned that I haven’t been eating enough to make my metabolism burn the calories! I also wasn’t making good choices when it comes to eating. I have been on the diet for 3 weeks now and have lost 10 lbs! I am 7 lbs away from being the weight I was when I found out I was pregnant with Eliza!!! I’m so excited! I actually cheated and got on the scale this morning just to “check”. I was 3 lbs lighter than my last weigh in.. but I’m not going to record that until my weight in day! And here’s the thing that excites me the most… I am never hungry!!! I’m considering this a lifestyle change more than a “diet.” I am ready to be healthy!!! I have been so excited about Weight Watchers that I have been sharing with everyone! A couple of my close friends have also joined! One has lost 10 lbs, another about 9… all in just a few weeks! Now, they do say that the first 3 weeks you lose a lot of weight and it should then become about 1 lb a week… still not bad! If I keep this up I’ll be great come Christmas! *wink* I joined the online group which is only $18 a month… that’s doable for me!!!

Here’s my encouragement to anyone who is trying to lose weight – stick to it! You can do it! I know it’s so difficult to do! I know from experience! Try to find a group of friends who are trying to live the same type of lifestyle you are – it’s a great encouragement. I have 3 friends in Weight Watchers right now and it’s an encouragement to hear that they also have bad days, good days, and are still losing weight as well!

God Bless

Laundry Detergent Continued

Hey Guys!

Back in January I was experimenting with making my own laundry detergent. In reviewing the family finances, I was sickened by the amount of money we were spending on every day items such as laundry detergent and dish washing detergent! It’s ridiculous! A good friend of mine gave me a recipe for home made laundry detergent and said she loved it! So, I thought what the heck?? Might as well try it!

Well, I absolutely LOVE IT!!!! It smells SO fresh and it’s so so so simple! Also, I spent a total of $10 in January for the items to make it… and I JUST ran out this month. That’s 8 months worth of Laundry detergent for $10!!! I am going to make some more this weekend and I still have PLENTY of ingredients left. The only thing I need to buy is the bar soap which is extremely cheap! So, all in all, I might spend $15 for a years worth of laundry detergent. That will save us so much money and it cleans the clothes extremely well!

I had attempted to make my own fabric softener and I was not impressed with it at all. It kept clogging up the area that you pour the softener in my washer. However, when my mom was visiting after I had Jude she advised me I was using it incorrectly! ha ha! That MIGHT be where the problem was! So, I may venture and try that one again! We will see… for now, I love Downy! It’s worth the money to me!

If you guys remember, I also tried to make my own dish washer detergent and my glasses came out cloudy! Well, that problem was remedied! It wasn’t the detergent, it was the water! Our water softener had messed up! I have been using the detergent ever since and it’s very effective. I love it! I use the same ingredients I bought for the laundry detergent! Just equal parts of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soap and Borax… put about 1 Tablespoon in the dishwasher and voila! You have homemade dishwashing detergent that works great!

Also, have you ever noticed how expensive drying agents are for your dishwasher? Yeah, like $10 for 1 bottle? And it only lasts for a short period of time. Well, use white vinegar and it works just as good as the leading drying agents! And it’s pennies compared to the leading brands!!!

I’m all about saving money where I can! ESPECIALLY since I’m no longer working!!

So, I know a lot of you have tried making the laundry detergent… let us know how it has worked for you!!! I’m really curious to hear!

God Bless!

A Special Gift from a Special Friend!!!

So, as I mentioned before, I quit my full time job to come home and be a full time mom and help my husband with the family business. When I left the office, I left a lot of close friends! It was a bittersweet day – will miss everyone at the office, but so excited to be able to spend this time with my kids!!! When I left, a good friend Kelley said she had ordered me a good-bye present and would let me know when it got in.

Just the other day my husband and I were talking about Christmas being right around the corner and what we should do for gifts for everyone! I told him I wanted one of two things – either a bread maker or a solar oven (I’ll tell you more about that later!) I just didn’t know which one to choose! So, I told him probably the bread maker would be better as it should cut my bread baking time extremely!

Well, last week Kelley called and told me the gift had come in and I need to come get it! It was a bread maker!!! I was soooo excited and shocked! She did not have to do that, but it was so thoughtful and sweet! I have used it twice since then… and it is AMAZING!!! I had made a few loaves by hand and used my Kitchen-Aid to do the kneading. While this is doable and the bread turned out wonderful, it does take some time to get it done. This bread machine is amazing! All you do is put in the ingredients and hit start! No kneading, no rising, just pop it in and 3 hours later you have a delicious loaf of bread! It’s fabulous!!! It takes care of all the “hard” work!

Yesterday, it took me a total of 15 minutes to mill the wheat, put in the ingredients, hit start, and clean up! You can’t beat that! Who doesn’t have an extra 15 minutes??? And you get an ending result that is both delicious and healthy for you and your family!

Back in January I made my own laundry detergent… tomorrow I’ll let you know how that has worked out!!!

God Bless!

Wheat Milling

Hello Everyone!

For probably 2 years now, I have really wanted to begin milling my own wheat. I know, it’s kind of a foreign idea for most of us and it sounds like a ton of extra work, but it’s completely worth it! I was introduced to the idea by my older sister who was introduced to it by one of her clients. She is a hair stylist in South Florida and noticed that her client’s hair had grown remarkably thick. When she commented on how thick it was, the client begin to explain that this was one of the many benefits of eating fresh grains.

In my own research, I have read that fresh wheat and grains will not only make your hair thick, but your nails grow faster, as well as people noticing sicknesses being eliminated, warts falling off etc. It’s quite amazing! I have noticed (and so has my hair stylist!) that my hair is much thicker. Also, Jude’s nails are growing extremely fast – apparently he’s receiving the benefits as well! I’m excited to see the effects the grain have on my entire family!

I bought my mill back in January from (this would be the site I most highly recommend! The owners are Christians and have an amazing testimony.) Between working full-time, going to school, being pregnant, and having my little Eliza, I didn’t feel up to attempting to bake bread! However, since I have been a stay at home mom, I have jumped on it!! And I am extremely tickled with it!!!

When I mention to friends that I am milling my own wheat, they look at me like I’m crazy!!! Then they make the comment… the one that irritates me more than anything in this world… “I don’t have the time…” Gracious doesn’t that burn me up! Here’s my response to that… You have time for whatever you make time for! You have time to watch the television don’t you? Time to go to work, time to eat, time to play… you have time to do what you want to do. If you don’t want to do it, that’s perfectly fine, but don’t tell me you don’t have time! Okay… I’ll get off my soapbox now.. =)

Anyways, I have so far made a few types of bread recipes as well as some pancakes. Eliza LOVES the pancakes… I freeze them and pop them in the microwave in morning… an easy way to get some grain in my picky little eater! I am planning on trying numerous recipes in the Bread Beckers cook book…. they all look so tasty!

How does an grain work? It’s extremely simple! All you have to do is pour the grain in the mill, turn the knob, and about 5 minutes later you have fresh flour! So, all in all, it’s a 5 – 10 minute extra step in a bread making process… and it’s amazing!

I’ll post more later about the special surprise I received from a former co-worker this week – I was extremely excited!!!

I’m back!!!!

Hey Everyone!!

I’m back! I know it’s been an extremely long time since I’ve posted, but I have been quite hectic!!

A lot has happened since I’ve last been on here. We welcomed our little boy, Jude Gray, into the world on May 15, 2011. I am getting ready to start my last semester at ECU the end of August (thank the Lord!!!) And the biggest news is I quit my job at BB&T! I am officially a stay at home mom! I am SO thankful and excited! These first three weeks I am helping out one of my best friends keeping her 8 year old son while she works until he starts school. Hasn’t been too bad, but I am getting the feeling of what having 3 kids feels like! ha ha!

I have been doing lots of my home-maker stuff!! Milling my grains and baking breads, keeping my fabulous clothes detergent made as well as my dish detergent etc. etc. I will update you guys on everything!

I apologize for the delay in posting, but you should be seeing much more from me!

God bless!
